The microphone is very quiet
Move closer, check the operating system’s input level, and confirm that the microphone is pointing the right way. Disable aggressive noise suppression in another app if it is affecting the signal there.
The wrong microphone is selected
After permission is allowed, use the microphone menu above when more than one input is available. A browser may otherwise use the operating system’s default input.
It works here but not in an app
Zoom, Teams, Discord, and other apps can each select a different input device and apply their own gain, echo cancellation, or noise suppression. Check the app’s audio settings separately.
A Bluetooth headset sounds different
Bluetooth devices often switch to a lower-bandwidth call mode when their microphone is active. That change can affect playback and recording quality without meaning the headset is broken.
The browser cannot get access
Microphone access requires HTTPS or localhost. If permission is blocked, use the site controls near the address bar, allow microphone access, and try again.

Is my microphone audio uploaded?
No. The live analysis and optional recording happen in your browser. This site does not send microphone audio, samples, or recordings to a server.
Why does the browser ask for microphone permission?
Browsers require your approval before a website can access a microphone. The test starts only after you select the button and allow access.
Why is my microphone not showing?
Check its cable or Bluetooth connection and confirm that the operating system recognizes it. Device names usually become available to the page only after permission is granted.
Can I choose a different microphone?
Yes. When the browser reports more than one audio input, a microphone menu appears in the tester.
Does this work on phones?
It works in current mobile browsers that support microphone access, including common versions of Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android. Browser and device restrictions can vary.
Why does my microphone sound different in Zoom or Discord?
Communication apps may use a different input or apply automatic gain, echo cancellation, and noise suppression. Compare the device and processing settings inside that app.
Does this test record me?
The live meter does not create a recording. Recording starts only if you select Record a sample, and that temporary recording remains in browser memory for local playback.
Can the site listen after I stop the test?
No. Stop test ends the media tracks and releases the microphone. The test also stops automatically after five minutes.
